FAQs
Truck and commercial vehicle insurance: frequently asked questions
I only have five trucks. Can I get a fleet policy?
At Allianz, a formal fleet policy with a flat rate usually starts from around 7 to 10 motor vehicles under the same tax ID. With five trucks, we insure them with individual commercial vehicle policies and apply direct multi-vehicle discounts.
Does roadside assistance cover international routes?
Yes. Heavy vehicle assistance covers you from km 0 throughout Spain and in the European countries within the Green Card system, including cross-border recovery.
I carry fruit and vegetables. Am I covered if the load spoils because the truck breaks down?
No, that's a common mistake. Truck insurance includes liability for the load (if it falls onto the road and causes an accident), but to cover spoilage, damage, loss or theft of the goods themselves you need a separate goods in transit policy.
Is the driver's hotel paid if the engine fails on a route in France?
Yes. With premium heavy vehicle assistance, if the repair abroad keeps the truck off the road for longer than the hours set in the policy, the insurer pays the professional driver's hotel and meals.
Do I have to declare dangerous goods (ADR)?
Yes. If the truck carries fuel, toxic chemicals, gases or any other goods classed as dangerous (ADR), you must declare it in the policy. The risk of explosion or pollution requires much higher liability limits by law.
Does the policy cover both the tractor unit and the reefer trailer?
Only if both are declared and correctly insured. The tractor unit carries its own compulsory policy, and the trailer or semi-trailer must be linked to it by registration or have its own insurance if it exceeds 750 kg maximum authorised mass.
Am I covered if I cause damage while loading at the warehouse dock?
Yes. Our commercial vehicle policy includes loading and unloading liability as standard, covering injury or damage to third parties during stowage, loading or unloading.
Is the windscreen covered if a stone cracks it on the motorway?
Yes, from extended third party to comprehensive. To keep you working, our mobile glass technicians can replace the windscreen at your own base.
I've just bought a new tractor unit. Can I insure it comprehensively with an excess?
Yes, and it's the smart choice. Comprehensive cover without excess is very expensive for a new truck; an excess of €300, €600 or €900 lowers the premium significantly while protecting your investment against fire, theft or a rollover declared a total loss.
What does advance compensation mean?
If another driver causes the accident, the usual claim between insurers can take months. With advance compensation, Allianz assesses and pays for your repair straight away so you can get back on the road, and then claims the cost from the other insurer.
AMB Seguros is an exclusive Allianz agency in the Region of Murcia insuring trucks, vans and road transport fleets for self-employed hauliers and SMEs, with heavy-duty assistance across Spain and Europe and advice in English.
