How much does a funeral cost in Spain without insurance?
A standard funeral in the Region of Murcia (funeral home, coffin, flowers, transfers and a niche or cremation) can easily cost €3,500 to €6,000. If the death occurs abroad or the body has to be repatriated, the cost can rise above €10,000. Funeral insurance covers the funeral so your family doesn't have to find that money.
Can the policy cover repatriation to my home country?
Yes. The Repatriation plan is designed for foreign residents in Spain: it organises and pays for the transfer of the deceased to their home country, including all the international paperwork. Tell us where you'd like to be laid to rest when you ask for a quote.
What if death occurs in another city or country?
Transfers are covered nationally and internationally. If the insured person dies on a trip elsewhere in Spain or abroad, Allianz organises and pays for the transfer back to the funeral home.
What paperwork does the insurer handle?
Almost all of it. Our legal team requests the death certificate and the certificate of last wills (to find out whether there is a will), applies for widow's or orphan's pensions where applicable, and deregisters the deceased with Social Security, the tax office, the town hall register and their banks.
Do I have to pay extra for a will?
No. The will service is included: we advise you by phone, draft your open will and pay the notary's fees at the notary of your choice. It also includes drafting a living will (advance medical directives). For expats with property in Spain, a Spanish will makes things much easier for your heirs.
What is digital legacy removal?
After a death, social media profiles stay active, receive automatic birthday messages and can be hacked. Our team contacts Meta (Facebook, Instagram), Google and other platforms to close and delete the deceased's profiles, protecting their memory and the family's privacy.
Can I include my whole family in one policy?
Yes, and it's the most sensible way to do it. A family policy covers parents, children and grandparents under a single payment (monthly, quarterly or annual), and the more people you include, the better we can optimise the cost.
My mother is elderly and has a chronic illness. Can she still be insured?
Yes, there is a solution. For older people who no longer pass standard medical questionnaires, there is a single-premium option: one payment, and the person is covered for life for all funeral and legal services, with no further premiums.
Can we choose the funeral home, the coffin and burial or cremation?
Of course. The policy is set up with an agreed insured amount, and when the time comes your family decides how they want to say goodbye: the funeral home, the coffin, the flowers, and burial or cremation with the ashes returned in an urn.
Can I use the medical and dental cover straight away?
Yes. Unlike the funeral covers, the additional medical and dental covers in the Extra and Total plans are available from the first day: unlimited 24/7 medical video consultations and the Allianz dental network.
