FAQs
Allianz Plazo Flexible: frequently asked questions
What's the difference between a bank deposit and Allianz Plazo Flexible?
Plazo Flexible isn't a bank product but a life savings insurance policy. In practice it works like a deposit: you invest a sum for a set period in exchange for a guaranteed fixed interest rate. The difference is who guarantees it: Allianz, one of Europe's largest insurers, with an 'AA' rating from S&P.
Are my capital and return guaranteed from day one?
Yes. Your policy states the guaranteed interest rate, so your return is fixed in advance. Whatever happens with inflation, the stock market or geopolitics, you receive the interest agreed in the contract if you keep the plan to maturity.
How much do I need to start?
It's a single-premium policy: you make one payment at the start, debited from your bank account. The minimum is €3,000 and the maximum €10,000,000.
Which terms can I choose?
2, 3, 4 or 5 years. In general, the longer the term, the higher the guaranteed fixed rate.
What if I need my money before the end of the term?
You can withdraw all or part of your money from the first year. Early withdrawals are made at surrender value, which means the amount depends on market interest rates at that time.
Does my money stop earning interest at the end of the term?
No. After the original term, if you don't ask for your money, the capital renews automatically every quarter at the interest rate in force.
After renewing, when can I take everything out without losing interest?
Once the initial term has ended, you have a 30-day window at the start of each quarterly renewal to withdraw part or all of your savings at their accumulated value: your full capital plus the guaranteed interest, with no market adjustment.
How is the interest taxed?
For Spanish tax residents, the gain is taxed as savings income (rendimiento del capital mobiliario), at 19% to 30%. The advantage is that you don't pay tax year by year, only when you withdraw.
What happens to the money if I die?
As it's a life insurance policy, the accumulated value plus an extra €300 is paid to your designated beneficiaries (or legal heirs), giving your family quick access to the money without the usual freezes on bank accounts. Inheritance tax rules apply.
Can I take out Plazo Flexible if I'm not Spanish?
Yes, if you live in Spain and have your NIE: nationality doesn't matter. We explain the policy and its conditions in English. If you're planning to move away during the term, tell us first, as the tax treatment would change.
