With Allianz Travel you get 24/7 worldwide medical assistance, emergency repatriation and cover for cancelled flights and lost luggage.

Medical and hospital expenses abroad

Healthcare abroad can be extremely expensive. If you have an accident, a hospital admission or a dental emergency outside Spain, Allianz pays the medical and surgical bills, up to €500,000 on the higher plans.

Repatriation and medical transport

If a serious illness or accident abroad means you need to be treated back in Spain, we organise and pay for your safe return, by air ambulance if necessary, and for a relative to travel with you.

Lost, stolen and delayed luggage

We compensate you if your checked luggage is stolen or permanently lost, and reimburse urgent purchases such as clothes and toiletries if your bag is delayed at your destination.

Trip cancellation

If a serious family emergency, a health problem, losing your job or a court summons stops you from travelling at the last minute, we reimburse the non-refundable cost of flights, hotels and car hire, up to the insured limit.

Early return home

If a close relative dies or is seriously ill, or your home suffers a serious claim such as a fire or flood while you're away, we pay for your urgent flight back.

Personal liability and legal bail

Cover if you accidentally cause injury or damage to others while travelling, up to €10,000, plus legal defence costs with local lawyers and an advance on bail abroad if needed.

Family visiting you from outside the EU?

Relatives who need a Schengen visa to visit you in Spain must show travel medical insurance with at least €30,000 of cover, including repatriation, valid throughout the Schengen area. Our Schengen inbound policy meets those requirements.

The European health card only gives you access to public healthcare in another EU country, on the same terms as locals: co-payments included. It never covers repatriation, private treatment, cancellations or lost luggage.

Travel insurance: frequently asked questions

Can I insure relatives visiting me from outside the EU?

Yes. Our Schengen inbound insurance is designed for foreign visitors to Spain and Europe and meets the requirements consulates set for a Schengen visa: at least €30,000 of medical cover, including repatriation, valid throughout the Schengen area for the whole stay. We send you the certificate for their visa application.

Why isn't my European health card (EHIC or GHIC) enough?

The European health card isn't travel insurance: it only gives you access to public healthcare in the country you visit, under local rules. Where there are co-payments, you pay them yourself, and it never covers private clinics, repatriation or a relative travelling to join you.

How does trip cancellation cover work?

If you've paid for flights, a cruise or a hotel and a health problem, losing your job or a relative's hospitalisation forces you to cancel, the policy reimburses the non-refundable costs up to the insured limit. You need to take it out shortly after booking.

What if the airline loses or damages my luggage?

If your checked luggage is lost or stolen, Allianz pays compensation according to the cover you chose. If it's only delayed, we reimburse urgent purchases such as clothes and toiletries.

I'm travelling to the USA. Is there a limit on medical expenses?

Healthcare in the USA or private hospitals in Japan can cost tens of thousands of euros even for a sprain or an appendix operation. The higher Allianz travel plans cover medical expenses abroad of up to €500,000.

Do you offer cover for the car hire excess abroad?

Yes. When you hire a car in Europe or the USA, the rental company blocks a large excess on your card. With our car hire excess insurance, if the car is damaged and the rental company charges you, we reimburse the amount.

Is there cover for a year studying abroad?

Yes. Our student cover protects students for the whole academic year abroad, unlike holiday policies that last a few weeks.

Am I covered skiing or snowboarding?

With the winter sports extension, the policy covers mountain rescue on the slopes, medical treatment and special medical transport home if you're injured skiing or snowboarding.

What happens if a close relative dies while I'm travelling?

The early return cover pays for the first available flight back so you can be with your family, without worrying about the cost.

I don't have a fixed return date. Which policy fits me?
