FAQs

E-scooter insurance: frequently asked questions

Is e-scooter insurance compulsory in Spain?
Yes. Since 2 January 2026, Law 5/2025 requires third-party liability insurance for personal mobility vehicles such as e-scooters ridden on public roads. Riding without it can lead to fines, and you'd have to pay any damage you cause yourself.
Am I covered if I hit a pedestrian or a parked car?
Yes. That's the core of the Basic plan: if you lose control and hit a pedestrian or damage a parked vehicle, third-party liability pays the compensation.
What does medical assistance in the Complete plan include?
A fall at 25 km/h can be serious, since there's nothing to protect you. The Complete plan covers first aid, medical and emergency expenses at private hospitals, up to the insured limit.
What if a car or motorbike hits me?
Then you're the victim, and claiming from the other driver's insurer can be complicated. With claims for damages, Allianz's lawyers claim the compensation for your injuries and your scooter, out of court or in court.
Is e-scooter insurance expensive?
No. It's one of the most affordable policies there is: for a small annual premium you protect your savings against claims from third parties and have legal defence.
Do you insure Xiaomi, Segway-Ninebot, Cecotec or other brands?
Yes, any brand, as long as the scooter meets the DGT requirements: a maximum speed of 25 km/h and no seat. We regularly insure Xiaomi, Segway, Niu and Cecotec models.
Can my teenage child be insured?
Yes. If your child (usually from 16, depending on local by-laws) rides a scooter and causes an accident, the parents are liable, so a named policy protects the whole family's savings.
Does the policy cover theft of the scooter?
No. E-scooter policies focus on liability, legal defence and the rider's medical cover; theft on the street isn't included. If you're worried about theft at home, we'll check what your home insurance covers.
What if I ride on the pavement and cause an accident?
Legal defence will still assign you lawyers. But riding on pavements or in pedestrian areas is a traffic offence, and if you cause damage while breaking the rules the insurer may claim back what it pays.
