Motorhome insurance: frequently asked questions
Why is it so important to declare the accessories inside?
Unlike a car, much of a motorhome's value is in its equipment: three-way fridge, heating, furniture and electrical system. Declaring them correctly means that after a serious claim or fire the insurer replaces that equipment, and you avoid being underinsured.
Is the panoramic windscreen on my A-class motorhome covered?
Yes, with the glass or comprehensive plans. A-class windscreens are made to measure and very expensive; the policy pays for replacement at workshops that handle large vehicles in Spain.
Is weather damage covered?
Yes. Motorhomes are often exposed to hail. With the right cover, Allianz pays to repair the roof and over-cab damaged by hail or falling branches in a storm.
What if I break down abroad and the repair takes several days?
If your motorhome has to stay in a garage abroad, roadside assistance pays for hotel accommodation for everyone on board while it's repaired, or for alternative transport home.
My motorhome weighs more than 3,500 kg. Will the recovery truck be able to take it?
Yes. Allianz sends heavy-duty recovery trucks or platforms suitable for the size and weight of large motorhomes, whether you're in Spain or elsewhere in Europe.
Am I covered if someone breaks in while I'm visiting a town?
Yes, with luggage and personal belongings cover: you're compensated for the damage to the vehicle (forced windows or locks) and for the belongings stolen, as set out in your policy.
Is a collision with a deer or wild boar covered?
Yes, with cover for collisions with game animals: we pay for repairing the front of the vehicle (radiator, bumper and bodywork) after hitting wildlife crossing the road.
What if a fire starts because of the gas installation?
If the fire is accidental, such as a gas bottle leak or explosion while you're parked for the night, you're compensated according to the vehicle's actual or agreed value.
Can I get comprehensive cover for a second-hand motorhome?
Yes. Comprehensive cover isn't only for new vehicles, although depreciation rules apply. We work out the real value of your second-hand motorhome and offer comprehensive cover with an excess that makes sense.
What do I need to get a quote?
The vehicle's technical sheet (ficha técnica), the registration certificate (permiso de circulación), a list of extra accessories and your driving history, including your no-claims certificate from abroad if you have one.
