Does the policy have waiting periods (carencias)?
We issue our expat policies with the waiting periods waived, so you can use the cover from the first day. Waiting periods and pre-existing conditions are different things: any condition you already have is declared and assessed when you apply, and we'll tell you exactly how it is treated before you sign.
Do I need private health insurance for my Spanish visa?
For a non-lucrative, digital nomad or student visa, Spanish consulates require private health insurance from an insurer authorised in Spain, with cover comparable to the public system, no co-payments and no waiting periods. We issue that policy and the certificate for your application.
Can I see doctors who speak English?
Many private clinics and hospitals in Murcia and on the Costa Cálida have English-speaking doctors, and we help you find them in the medical directory. Your agent also handles authorisations and claims with you in English.
I have a UK S1 form or I'm in the Spanish public system. Do I still need private cover?
No, it isn't required. Many of our clients add private insurance anyway to avoid public waiting lists, choose their specialist and get appointments within days.
Is my EHIC or GHIC card enough?
No. The European health card covers necessary state treatment during a temporary stay, not while you live in Spain, and it is not accepted as the insurance a visa or residence application requires.
What is a co-payment (copago)?
A small fixed amount you pay per visit or test, in exchange for a lower premium. Some plans include co-payments and others don't; if you need the policy for a visa, we issue it without co-payments.
Am I covered when I travel outside Spain?
Yes. Your policy covers urgent medical treatment abroad if an accident or sudden illness catches you while travelling. Reimbursement plans go further and let you use private doctors anywhere in the world and claim the cost back.
Can I include my partner and children?
Yes. You can insure the whole family on the same policy, with children's paediatric care included, and our full plans add dental cover at no extra cost.
How quickly can the policy start?
Usually within a day or two of sending us the application, and we can set the start date to match your arrival in Spain or your visa appointment. You get the certificate as soon as the policy is issued.
